The Remote Primary Health Care Manuals (RPHCM) are a suite of clinical manuals designed to support quality, evidence-based primary health care in central, northern and remote Australia. A distinctive feature of these manuals is their development and updating ‘by the user for the user’ through collective knowledge of topic experts and contextual knowledge. The new manual editions are due for publication December 2022.

KAMS (Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Services Ltd) is a regional Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS), providing a collective voice and support for a network of member ACCHS from towns and remote communities across the Kimberley region of Western Australia.

KAMS was first established in 1986 as a cooperative between the Broome Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (BRAMS) and the East Kimberley Aboriginal Medical Service (EKAMS) now the Ord Valley Aboriginal Health Service (OVAHS) with membership expanding to Halls Creek health service committee and Fitzroy Crossing community representatives. These communities saw the benefit of sharing pooled resources and collective effort in the region.

NT Health Nursing and Midwifery provides services across five regions that expands over 1,349,129 kilometres and encompasses six public hospitals and 74 primary health centres. Queensland University of Technology – Centre for Healthcare Transformation, Cancer and Palliative Care Outcomes Centre.

The Centre for Healthcare Transformation brings together leading clinicians, health economists, statisticians and implementation scientists from a variety of fields, including nursing and other health sciences.

The centre provides an opportunity to strengthen collaborations for improving health outcomes research, thereby strengthening the efficiency and effectiveness of health services for the benefit of patients, their carers, the community more broadly, and health service providers.

The Cancer and Palliative Care Outcomes Centre leads research to improve health outcomes for people affected by cancer and other chronic or life-limiting conditions. The Program of Experience in the Palliative Approach (PEPA) is one such research program.

The centre transforms research evidence, using practical insights, to enable effective change and to provide relevant and proven real world practical solutions.

Remote Area Health Corps (RAHC) deploys urban-based health professionals to increase primary healthcare services and assist in addressing the shortfall in health service delivery in remote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Established in 2008, RAHC is an Australian Government-funded program administered on behalf of the Department of Health for The Indigenous Australians’ Health Programme: Stronger Futures Northern Territory which focuses on “addressing the persistent challenges to accessing primary healthcare services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait people in the Northern Territory”.

RAHC offers short-term paid placements to urban-based professionals from 3 weeks to 3 months, creating opportunities to improve the health and wellbeing of First Nation Australians without having to give up your regular job back home. Each health professional is provided with cultural orientation and ongoing support through our free CPD approved online modules. The modules are designed to provide an overview of health issue prevalent to the remote health context.

Delivered by a dedicated team of professionals, using the latest in aviation, medical and communications technology, and supported by volunteers and supporters, the RFDS provides a lifeline for communities in rural and remote Australia.

Torres and Cape Hospital and Health Service (TCHHS) is the largest provider of public healthcare services across the most northern remote areas of Queensland. TCHHS provides health services to a resident population of 26,966 with 67% identifying as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people. The range and type of services provided are defined in a formal Service Agreement with the Department of Health. Services are provided across 35 facilities (4 hospitals and 31 primary and community health services) by more than 1000 staff.
